Jack Grundy – triathlete, coaching and training.
From a young age I enjoyed school cross country and mountain biking with my Dad but originally I came from a swimming background, but at the age of 15 I slowly started to get bored of just seeing the bottom of the pool every day. At this point I started to get involved in Aquathon events ( swim, Run), after doing well in Aquathons I then progressed to triathlons.
I have recently graduated from Bath University with a 2.1 in a Bachelor of science in sport performance, Training and studying at Bath university has helped me to progress as a athlete and a coach. The main reason for going to Bath was to train with the Elite Team Bath triathlon squad which have access to world class facilities. Training with aspiring and world class athletes was an amazing environment to be in, which also helped me improve as athlete.
I am now living on the Isle of Wight in Freshwater, which I will be using as a base for my training for the next year. I am coached by Geoff Watkins who is a very well known and accomplished run coach, and has experiences and knowledge in how difficult triathlon training can be to manage. The Isle of Wight is the perfect base with great cycling on and off road, the running is superb off road with some great coastal runs, there is also a very good run group that meet twice a week for track and threshold sessions. Most of my swimming will be done with West Wight swimming club, but there is always the option from spring till September for open water swimming which is perfect for season preparations.
